Jean Leans On a Board & Reads Sides

That contraption Jean Harlow is propped up in? It’s a leaning board, something like an upended bench or cot that allowed film actresses in elaborate costumes to rest or even nap without mussing their costumes or hair. Here, she’s reading her sides, the pages for that day’s shooting of Dinner at Eight.

(Found at Beguiling Hollywood.)

  1. My pleasure!

Cool, about sides these days. I didn’t know that. That’s pretty small–are they more like crib sheets, with notes and highlights, or do they have full stretches of the script? Have you ever posted any pictures of them? Thanks for letting me be curious. 🙂
